Back to Work

DoNow: A 2 kg mass is compressed on a long spring with k = 0.5 N/m. The mass is released and attains a maximum speed of 10 m/s. Assume non-conserved paths are minimized. How much energy is stored in the spring? How far was the spring compressed? If the spring was stretched 10 m, what is the maximum speed the mass will move? If the mass was launched 20 m/s, vertically into the air, what is the maximum height the mass will reach? (notes)

AIM: I can use drawings, equations and physics specific vocabulary to describe how energy is stored and related to motion of an object.
